Calgary has dozens of small store front massage parlours (known as body rub centres) all offering a range of extra services behind closed doors.
The law in town means that sexual services may not be purchased (though it is legal to sell them) so you must play along with the charade that you are visiting a therapeutic massage centre.
You pay the house for the massage element which is basically just a room hire fee and then ‘tip’ your attendant for her extra services – if she decides to offer them. The turning a blind eye approach to what goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults effectively makes these parlours brothels. As long as you (and they) are discreet, then you won’t find a problem.
However, it is important to note those grey lines.
If you turn up at a body rub centre requesting “full service”, or anything remotely resembling a sexual service, then you are breaking the law.
How to Get an Erotic Massage in Calgary
Firstly, it’s important to distinguish between the two different types of services offered.
There are licensed massage centres, where therapists are required to to be members of one of the four recognised massage therapy associations in the province — and where erotic services are highly unlikely to be attained.
And then there are body rub centres.
The law requires here that practitioners in a body rub centre must must have 250 hours of school training and a yearly police background check. There is also regulation in place to prevent body rub centres from opening within 300 meters of each other — a clear attempt to ‘clean up’ the reputation of local neighbourhoods.
If you are looking for an erotic massage (with all the trimmings), then you should opt for a licensed body rub centre.
There are plenty in Calgary, and they are generally much easier to distinguish for their distinctly male-friendly marketing.
