Over the years this has lead to numerous run-ins, both in terms of police crackdowns on prostitution, as well as routine inspections uncovering improper licensing and invalid work permits.
Whilst the majority of this attention is focused on weeding out the genuinely worst offenders — e.g. human traffickers and pimps — there are implications involved for anybody who runs a body rub centre, or works there, or visits one.
You can still attain a variety of erotic massage services — “the manipulation of soft tissue”, as it is bizarrely referred to by law — but most Ottawa body rub centres will make it clear in their advertising:
“Any illegal activities including but not limited to sexual favours is completely forbidden and not tolerated.”
We’ll leave it to you to decide how effectively this policy is enforced across the board.
